Blog 7 - Monday, October 3, 2016

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week!

Last week, the mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, put into place a ban on all pit bulls!

He has ordered that all current owners of these dogs wear a muzzle and have some chip put inside them.

What do you think about this pit bull ban?

Explain.

  1. This is terrible news for an animal lover like myself. I fell that you can't assume that all pit bulls are bad dogs. It depends how you raise them. It's like saying that all humans are banned because of Hitler,Trump or my sister Lily. You can't judge humans of of only 3 examples of bad people. What about Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks. There are tons of great pitt bulls in the world and they shouldn't be punished because of a few bad owners. I hope that in the future this ban will be lifted.

    2. I agree on what you said. It doesn't really make sense to just eliminate all pit bulls just because a few weren't behaving well and also it probably wasn't even there fault! Great blog!

    8. Guys I just read that police evidence shows it was a boxer that attacked the owner not a pit-bull, this makes so much more sense

  2. I am so against the ban of pittbulls it isn't even funny. I always have arguments with my family over the topic but I always struggle to find the words to explain what I mean. I actually had a whole conversation with my dad, sister, mom, two of my cousins and her boyfriend over the weekend about this topic!!! My cousins boyfriend brought up a lot of good points because he volounteered at the SPCA over the summer and learned that pitbulls definitely have the capability to severely injure someone but they aren't the most aggressive animal because in fact a German Shepard could be just as bad. Any dog can be aggressive and harmful if it is brought up to be like that, maybe not my chihuahua but still you know what I mean. I find it so unfair that just a couple of badly raised dogs can ruin the reputation for generations to go on. My dog recently stayed at my grandparents house for a weekend and their next door neighbours just happened to have a pitbull and it was so sweet. My grandparents told us that my grandpa brought my little dog over to see the pitbull and he/she liked his face and was very gentil. I think that any dog should be able to live and be adopted from wherever and its up to their owners to do their jobs properly too. It takes a certain type of character to raise a pitbull the RIGHT WAY. I think they should start over fresh and give them a second chance. I could honestly write a whole book about this, I'm not going to lie but I think I'll stop there...for now. I think that in a few months we should do this blog over again to see if anything so changed in our opinions. :)

  3. I think this is completelty unacceptable!!! There’s no reason to ban all pitbulls, if you really think about. So a few, badly monitered pitbulls attacked some civilians and now you’re going to ban them? Seriously? Imagine they were to ban chiwawa’s. Everybody would be confused because most are completely harmless...JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER DOG. (You get where I’m going here?) “The dogs aren’t bad it’s the owners!”-every person ever who was interviewed on the topic and was mad about! What’s the point about the chip anyways? They’re just going to end up eating it! Seriously though, why? So if they attack someone you can identifie their bite marks and then kill the dog in secrecy, after? Oh, and about this musle thing! You think owners who honestly love their dogs, are going to put a musle on them? Did they not think this through?!?! There has been plenty of dog attacks over the years and now just because the VERY FEW pitbulls that attacked random people they’re getting banned? What about when there was a coyote in the forest where I live that attacked a lot of people, my brothers and there friends saw the coyote when they went into that forest and what about that time it when int our friends backyard? They didn’t really seem to care about that, even though a coyote is like 5x more dangerous than a pitbull! Seriously, Dennis Coderre, get your act together!

  4. i am for and against it because like Julia said you cant say that all pit bulls are bad but making them wear muzzles is like a restriction our restriction as humans is the law. the law keeps us from hurting or doing mean and cruel things to people muzzles keep the from hurting or doing mean and cruel things to people. but you cant base pit bulls on three bad moments. pit bulls can be gentle. while you are at it why wouldn't they muzzle all dogs i know a dog down my street was muzzled and its a SMALL dog. so why would they specify pit bulls because they look dangerous and they are big that's like saying i'm weaker than Rachel or someone taller than me or bigger than me or scarier than me.

  5. This new rule is absolutely outrageous. It is not fair that a breed of dog generally considered to be a breed made to kill be banned from Montreal. The dog is not even the most dangerous breed of dog. While pit bulls and all other dogs in general can be extremely harmful if they are kept with a bad owner. To me it is all in the owner. The breed of dog doesn't matter. If you put a pit bull with a good owner it will be an amazing dog. For these reasons I am 100% against this law.

  6. I am so upset about this new rule some people think that all Pit Bulls are mean but they are not. I have a Pit Bull living right next to my house and he is so cute!! He always used to come outside and sit on the lawn I have never seen him bite anyone. Now I have to see him go away, since I am a dog lover I really am trying to understand this but the most thing that I am disappointed about is that there a putting a chip inside these dogs, dogs have feelings and if you thing you could stop them from barking and trying to control them with a chip they you are doing something terribly wrong I think everyone agrees that this is not the right choice to make and this is certainly abusing animals by putting some metal thing in there body!!

  7. I think pits bull dogs should not be ban what harm did they do to us lots of people in montreal have pits bull's it is injustice to take away pits bulls or put them in a muzzle like people say dogs are our best friends so why mistreat them so I protest let them free. What will you feel if people put a muzzle on you or took away your family so think about what you do before acting. But we all have opinions only if we have lots of people on our side we might be able to change the rights of not being able of having a pits bull at your home or as a pet.

    Thanks for reading

  8. I think people should be allowed to have pit bulls but they must be controlled. I have a friend who’s dog bites me non stop. He once bit me in the butt when I asked my friend if he wanted to go to the park!!! I had that bite mark for months! But people love their dogs but not when there is a lady who got mauled to death by a pit bull… Overall I don’t think that the pit bull ban is fair for trained pit bulls.

    1. I'm brutally honest I don't believe it lasted for months unless blood comes out which would me a much more serious case

I'm sorry but to me it's not believable

I have a lot of bruise marks usually and they go away in about a week

    2. I guess your right about having your dog under control, but they are just animals. I also dought that the bite mark lasted for months.

  9. I am horrified that pitbulls are banned from Montreal.I find that most of the cases of charging pitbulls are probably because the person threatened them. Pitbulls aren’t predators to human, they don’t regard us as prey and they have no reason to attack us unless they feel threatened .It’s totally not fair for the dogs who are in the pounds, I did a little research and I says that all dogs in the pound will be euthanized!!! Luckily there is an organisation called One Last Chance Rescue that are trying to adopt as many pit bulls out of the city as they can.

  10. I disagree on this decision. Just because some dogs did some bad things, the mayor decides to ban pit bulls because they look scary, She used pit bulls as (As Mr Katz said) a scapegoat. Dogs are like people, yes some of them are bad and do bad or horrible things, put a lot of them are nice. The worst thing my dog did is hide under the table when she grabbed a plastic spoon! And some pit bulls ( As many people said in class via stories) are super nice! I think the rule to put muzzles on dogs is bad. Muzzles and super uncomfortable for dogs! Think about it! Imagine if you could not open your mouth! That's what i think about this new rule.

  11. This is unexplainable! But, I will try my best to explain it. This is wrong. The pit bulls themselves are not bad. It is who teaches them to be bad. How the owners want them and train them to be. I feel like pulling my hair out! It is just so unfair🐶! Ahhhh😡! So anyways, I do not think it is fair that whenever a pit bull goes outside, they have to wear a muzzle. It is like they are being punished for nothing. Maybe some of them are bad, but the gentle, nice and innocent ones are being forced to do something they should not have to do. Another type of dog could be even more aggressive than a pit bull. They are not even the most aggressive type of dogs that are owned as pets. This is a catastrophe! I hope that this rule will change someday. Thankyou for reading this. GO PIT BULLS!!!!🐶 :)

  12. I'm happy and sad because I don't like pit bulls they are the only animal that kind of scares me. I also think that is it also very sad because they are just animals. I also think that the owners of the pit bulls have the right to chose what they want to put on there dogs. I think that pit bulls should not have to wear muzzles but should have to be at least 20cm from people who are the owners.

  13. I think that this ban on pit bulls is unfair. It's not just the dog's fault, that there are so many cruel dog attacks, it's also the master. If a master doesn't spend time with their dog or if, unfortunately, he abuses their dog, it will not be the most playful, safe or fun dog. Any dog can become violent, not just pit bulls. I think it is somewhat stereotypical that they only banned pit bulls when there are other dogs who kill people too. I think rather putting this ban on pit bulls, we should have meetings with the city, discussing how to treat your dog respectfully and kindly.

  14. What type of rule is that! Like for real. The only thing that rule will do for Montreal is make everyone angry. Just because a few pit bulls maybe behaved wrong or was too aggressive, no one can have a pit bull. It’s like saying no more ice cream because one scoop of ice cream tasted bad. Imagine what’s next, no houses because a few houses got destroyed by hurricanes or tornados which makes them completely useful right. Just look what the world has come too. I find that pit bulls should not be band and that everyone should try to make a stand against it. Just imagine how many bad pit bulls there are and how many good pit bulls there are. Did you know that the thing pit bulls are known for best is there strong stature and protective nature. I know right. But know they’re trying to ban them! After reading this blog I hope you know that pit bulls are amazing and are a very useful dog.

I mean it isn't their fault their master didn't train them properly!!!!!All dogs have bite someone or something before its just what they do, its not there fault!!I am totally against what there doing!!! 16. I don't agree with the pit bull ban.The government is reacting to a situation without putting thought into why it keeps happening.Yes pit bulls can be aggressive, especially if trained that way,but so can chihuahuas! Most of pit bulls are probably as gentle golden retrievers. I have a friend who owns a pit bull
that runs away from danger not toward it. He may seem aggressive because he barks a lot but he just wants to get your attention. Again, I really don't agree with the ban because it's unfair to label one breed aggressive and I'm sure many people don't agree either.

  17. The reason pit bulls are biting people mitt just be because of bad ownership. and if the owners of the dogs have heard about the ban, they might not even do it and ignore the rule. I agree and disagree to this rule to a certain extent. if the pit bull is a biting maniac, than a muzzle probably would be required. but if it's just a case of owners abusing or maltreating the pet, then they can just take the dog away from the owners and help the dog the best they can. And sometimes the masters are just too lazy to teach the pit bulls about rules, manners, lessons, and things you should not do.

  19. I absolutely disagree with this ban. It is so stupid to me in many ways. First of all, pit bulls are dogs. Of course they are not all extremely well behaved, but first, is that their fault or their master’s fault? Their master’s, and second how is that different than any dog breed? Dogs are like humans. Someone needs to teach them how to behave or they will never learn. I think this is so unfair to pit bulls because most pit bulls are extremely well behaved and I’m sure German Shepherds are known to behave worse or the same so why doesn’t the mayor ban German Shepherds as well? This is so unfair to the owners of pit bulls to have to pay for all this and torture their dogs who are probably extremely well behaved. I am not one of those people who thinks they are right and won’t listen to anyone else’s opinion, so I would be happy to hear 10 good reasons why pit bulls are worse than any other dog, and should have to be tortured like this.

  20. THAT RULE SUCKS IT'S MEAN IT'S HARSH AND I'M SURE BARELY ANYONE LIKES THAT BAN OF PIT BULLS!!! I'M STARTING A DARN PROTEST!! This is awful, most of the reasons that they are bitting people or trying to attack them is beacsuse they're either people treated horribly or they're trained that way!! I mean cHIUWAWAS CAN BE TRAINED TO HURT PEOPLE AND THEY'RE NOT GETTING BANNED!!! I completely disagree with this rule whomever agrees with me see me at lunch tomorrow and we'll star a protest!!! (to a certain extent)

  21. I think that this ban should come to a certain extent. Yes pit bull's may seem like a ferocious creature but is it not to say that any dog can come off as dangerous and aggressive? The idea of a muzzle is simply a way for the residents around the canine to feel safe. If the dog were to be out without a muzzle whose to say that it will still be a well-behaved companion. Most may say or think that it is mostly the owners training capabilities, in some ways yes, such as the saying "Monkey see, Monkey Do". On other cases it could be something around the dog that could provoke them to either attack or protect. Therefor what I think about the pit bull ban is I think it is simply ridiculous, will it really be a well in forced law? I'm not the Mr. Coderre, yet I seem to understand where he is coming from, people have been attacked by dogs, not just pit bulls but other dogs as well. Yet it seems that when asked what is the most dangerous breed, most will say pit bull. He needs to be able to do his job while keep a balance, protect the safety of the citizens while being able to stay fair.

  22. What I think about this is that it isn’t all about the dog breed which in this matter would be the breed pit bull. They also have to look upon the owner if they are treating it right and if they are training it to be mean as a protector. Maybe it can be the breed but to me I think it depends on the owner. Putting chips and muzzles on them wont change the owner’s behavior. So to me that is pretty useless to harm a dog for something they haven’t done. So the question is how I feel about this and I am disagreeing with this banning all pit bulls for some bad owners why do all of them have to suffer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think they shouldn't ban pit bulls. They say that pit bulls are dangerous well any animal could be dangerous any animal could bite you really hard just like a pit bull. It's the owner responsibility to train them so that doesn't happen. If the owner always kicks the dog when they come home well of course they will be dangerous because that's how they are taught! So no they should not ban all pit bulls.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think that there should be a ban on pit bulls, trust me I love dogs, just because they have an agressive history. Plenty of other dogs have the same history if not worse. It's just because when you think pit bulls some people think of just agressivness. Pit bulls are just like any type of other dog but you must train them well. Pit bulls should not have to wear muzzles, I mean that's rediculouse, a muzzle is like torture it contains the dog never open its mouth! It's not just about the dog you know, if you have an owner that miss treats the dog and never trains it, no wonder it's going to be aggressive. The dogs behaviour is not just about how the dog is a huge part of it is about how the owner trains and treats the dog. I think that the Mayer has made a HUGE mistake doing this putting a muzzle on a pit bull can anger it and actually make it more aggressive. I feel very strongly about this new law and it actually angers me! I fell that this is a descrimination against dogs and that dogs should be able to live in peace.
