  1. Remembrance day,
Remembrance day is extremely important to everyone, from soldiers to Families and friends this day is very important to everyone.
This is an important day for me because I would like to remember all the people who have died in every war to help our country be free, sometimes we forget that we have soldiers fight for us every single day trying to make Canada and our world and a better place.
I wear the poppy to remember proudly our Canadian soldiers, men and woman who have fallen and have served for this country. Even if they aren't even here right now. The poppy is worn by many people to show respect for everything that our soldiers have done for us since the begining of Time.
It makes me so sad to see so many people not wearing a poppy or not being silent during the minute of silence, they just pass it by like it's nothing, like it's just a regular day but it really isn't, Lots of people do that and it makes me feel so sad on the inside. I wish more people cared.
On remembrance day I also listen to a poem about the poppies on how they blow between the crosses row by row. It'S a very sweet poem written by a man that was serving in the world war 2 for Canada. You can also find it on the 10$ Bill.
In conclusion I think that everyone should respect Remembrance day Because it is very important to some people even including me and my family. As we are very fortunate to not have our fathers out at war at this very second.
    Thank you,
    Erin Jefferies

  2. Remembrance day,
I couldn't understand half the stuff at the assembly and I couldn't hear (our guest of honor) the soldier. I think that remembrance day is super important for our generation because it lets us remember all the soldiers who fought for Canada and all the other countries but right now i'm talking about Canada. I have always loved history especially Canadian history and war history. If we were to go to war like all the young soldiers who went to war during the two world wars and the Korean war, some of us might not survive. We all live in a free country and we wouldn't without our soldiers wining the wars for our country.

I will now write Flanders Fields from the ten dollar bill.

    Written by: John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    1. It wasn't a really a soldier at the assembly. He was more of a veteran. Matthieu Davies do you even listen to the assembly.

    5. Jason, just saying, he used to be a soldier, thats what a veteran is. He once was a real soldier and you should respect that. Great Blog Mathieu! I really liked the idea of putting a poem in your blog.

  3. Assemblies… I don’t really like assemblies at all. They are so long and usually boring. And the schools are so hot and stuffy. This assembly was ok though. It wasn’t the best, but not the worst. It was cool having a canadian soldier who fought in the korean war. (at least I think) I liked that video that a former St-Thomas student did. I think it is important to remember the soldiers because they fought for us. They risked their own lives for their country. They volunteered (but some were forced) to serve our country good and protect us. We wouldn’t be here in a wonderful country other if it wasn’t for the soldiers. I guess remembrance day is still relevant. It is thing that we should know about because one day you might be wanting to serve in war and also one of your ancestors could have fought in the war and you had no idea about that.

  4. Tomorrow is November 11. The day were we all come together to remember and think about all the soldiers who had died and fought for our freedom. Yesterday, we were brought to the gym to listen to an assemble. During this assemble, we had the privilege of hearing a story from a veteran who had fought for someone’s freedom. It was a very educational and interesting assemble. During this assemble, we had a moment of silence who were either fighting in a war at the moment, for fallen soldiers, or for veterans all over the world. In my opinion, I think it is still very important to keep on remembering these soldiers because they had either fought for our freedom or are fighting for our freedom. I am lucky enough to still have my great-grandfather who was a slave, in World War 2. My great-grandfather has told me so many stories about when he was enslaved by the Germans. During World War 2 he was a plumber, and one story that I find so amazing, happened on the day they were freed. He told me that one day, he was fixing a toilet and all of the Nazis had seemed ‘off’ , if you know what I mean. It had seemed like they were all in a panic. One of the Polish-Jews that understood a little bit of German heard the word “freed” and “defeated”. The word spread fast, and nobody could believe that they were actually free. Though, nobody had actually come to their camp for up to a month. Everybody was so happy that day. My great-grandfather says that he still remembers everyone being so overjoyed, like it was yesterday. I take remembrance day very seriously because it was a soldier that freed my great-grandfather, and every remembrance day I thank that soldier who saved my great-grandfathers life. (P.S. I am not Jewish, nor is my great-grandfather. They enslaved my great-grandfather because he was a plumber, and was able to fix toilets etc.)

  5. Remembrance day is so important to me because I have relatives that fought in world war 2 more luckier than others, like my great-grandfather, he was in a tank during the war, he was 1 out of 7 people in it, the tank got bombed up. He was one of the 2 out of 7 soldier that got out of the tank alive and sadly the other soldier passed away while getting treated for all of his wounds, my great-grandfather was the only one to survive the bomb. He went partially def in one ear but that barely affected him, he still lived his life but sadly passed away last February at the age of 97. I will always remember him for risking his own life just to protect Canada. I am so proud to be one of his relatives. He was one of the nicest people I had ever met. That's why I loved the assembly because the veteran had the courage to talk about his memories of the war, I found him very brave to stand in front of all of us. All the people who risked their lives to free Canada, I give you all of my respect. That is why I will be wearing a poppy to show it. Thank you.

  6. I think Remembrance Day is super important. We are remembering the people who risked or lost their lives for us. I don’t love assemblies but I usually find Remembrance Day assemblies fun. This year was good, but it was a little hard to hear the veteran and some of the others who were speaking. Other than that, I thought it was great. I think that even in our generation, Remembrance Day is one of the most important days of the year. It is for a great cause and I think everyone should take a moment of silence to appreciate these special heroes on this very special day.

  7. I think it is still and will always be very important to celebrate every single year. If we forget about this important celebration than we will forget the soldiers that fought in world war 1 and 2 and even in The Korean and Japanese wars. These are the soldiers that made Canada what it is today, beautiful and free. It would also be extremely disrespectful because (Please read in grumpy old man voice) kids nowadays don't know the cost of war. The soldiers that died for US! All kids know today is there cellular doohickeys. My opinion of the assembly was that it was very nice. We had a moment of silence and it was amazing how an actual war veteran came to the school.

  8. Remembrance Day is a very important holiday that we should always remember. The people who end up going to war, most of the time don't want to, but they have to. Men who have a wife, children, family and friends. They never had a choice. Random men get picked out of that country and go to war. See they're friends who came with them die in their arms and have the risk of dying. They do it for our lovely country called Canada.

  9. Remembrance day is probably the 4th most important day of the year excluding birthdays. Remembrance day is the day when you spend time to acknowledge the brave hearted Canadian soldiers who fought for our safety and our lives. They sacrificed themselves to give us a good future. We are the people that the Canadian soldiers thought of when they were thinking about home, safety and pride. As Canadian soldiers stepped onto the battle field they thought that they may never take another step but they would do everything for us, Canadians. Soldiers who have sacrificed their lives now lie in flanders fields because they died for us. Their families wonder why they never came back home, their friends die worried they are dead and these you soldiers, nurses, pilots and commanders died because they were thinking of us. The assembly was an amazing opportunity to hear what it was like serving in the army and in a war. The soldiers and veterans deserve every one's respect everyday because we should be thankful for the bravery of our Canadian soldiers and how much we have because of them.
Canada is home to soldiers who lie in flanders fields.

  10. My opinion on the assembly?
I thought the assembly was great but the only problem was when the guest veteran was mumbling but everything else was great.

Why I think remembering dead soldier is important?
I think remembering dead soldier is important because they fought in dangerous wars were they lost their own life for us. Also who in this classroom would have that type of courage to go into war and risk their life for ours. Like I thought almost no one. Like the veteran said if you could hear him they had low sources of food. But they can still be food. How would you feel to live your life sleeping in tents whole in the ground and eating the same food even if it is hard bread of sometime fruits that were bad? Let's get to the point we should remember them because they suffered the lack of food, badly wounded, have some sort of problem with your body and most important of all risk their valuable precious life for us all. So that is why we pay our respect and remember them.

Is remembrance day relevant to my generations?
Remembrance day is sort of relevant to me, because my grandpa on my dad's side has gone to wars as a pilot. He was lucky enough not to be shot down and came back safely. When he retired from being a pilot he turned into a commander teaching young soldier how to fly the jets and planes.

    Thank you for reading,

  11. The assembly on Wednesday was fine. I found it cool that we were joined by a veteran who served in the Korean war and that we were being recorded by Global News. I think it's important to remember soldiers a lot of whom died for this country and a lot of the world too. I find rememberance day is relevant to our generation because there are still countries with wars going on outside Canada with Canadian soldiers fighting in.

  12. We should remember the soldiers who have fought for us and died to protect our country so no harm comes to it. These soldiers have a lot of courage and bravery to fight. I really enjoyed the assembly and that was a message that was trying to tell us to remember all the people that fought. Some people didn't die but they got really injured. A poppy is to remind us that we are Canadian citizens and we respect our country and we remember those soldiers! We honor our country and are glad that we are living in it. I told have anybody who fought in the war because my family was all from different places but of course I was born here, if my family would've came to Canada sooner they would've wanted to be apart of the war. Thank you

  13. I am so extremely great full for the soldiers that fought for us!!! There bravery and strngth shall never be forgotten. They had so much bravery to leave there families to decide to go and fight for our country knowing that hey might not ever come back. We need to remember these kind souls and try to charish, in our hearts what they had done for us and our country. I am a proud Canadian and I think it's extremely important to always wear a poppy as a symbol to remember them. I think it's also important to think about them from time to time. I really enjoyed the assembly the other day. It reminded me of the braves hearts but it also made me sad to think of the ones that passed. I really enjoyed to hear the veteran talk to us but it made me tear up when he started to cry. Thank you #rememberance_day

  14. I am very grateful that we still have a holiday in our generation that lets us remember the soldiers that protected our freedom, rights and country. The assembly was wonderful and I'm glad that we respect those who died tragically and heroically all for our countries. Remembrance day is definitely important in our generation, maybe more than any other. Because of this, I'm very proud to live in the country called
    Canada.

  15. Remembrance Day is truly Important. It honors our soldiers that fought for our freedom and Canada. We remember only one day a year for one minute. Personally I think we should honor our soldiers more than a minute. We have to thank them for everything we have today. The assembly was a great honoring of soldiers. It warmed my heart truly.

  16. My opinion about the assembly was that we were there for the purpose of paying our respects to the people who have fought and are still fighting today. They have helped us in a way that nobody can compare to. It was fantastic that we could have a war veteran come to speak with us. I was truly honored with his visit.
I think it is important to remember the soldiers because without them, we would not have our freedom we have today. They are the true heroes of any comic book, we should continue to remember them not as soldiers, but as heroes. They have fought and are still fighting today so that way not just us, but the entire world can have peace. Remembrance day is still relevant in our generation. It is because we where the poppies, sell them and are encouraged to do so. If it wasn't, I don't think that we would feel proud to where the red flower with pride, or to have our moment of silence and to stand tall and free. That is why I think that not only is Remembrance Day important, but it is something we should hope to continue for the rest of the years.

  17. Rememberance day is very important to me abd my family since my grandfather is a veteran we always celebrate it. The assembly was well prepared and executed I also liked that they brought a veteran (even though we could barely understand). If you were here today you would have noticed all the poppies they were EVERYWHERE! So I would say that this day is relevant in our generation just because we are a new generation doesn't mean we are not humain. We do think or at least I think that the veterans are important and we should treasure them forever and the soldiers currently fighting. Never forget the people who fought for you you wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.

  19. I personally really respect all of the soldiers who went to fight for us in the wars. They are super brave and they are really inspirational. I liked our assembly because I think it was well organized and thought out. I didn't really hear or understand what the veteran was saying but I know the storyline and just his presence was really nice. I believe that remembrance day is such an important day and we should keep doing it because all of the soldiers who went to fight for us in wars deserve to be recognize hugely because without them we would be living a completely different life. We also celebrate this day for all the families of soldiers who had to see their loved ones go off to war only to see them in a couple of years or never to see them again. I think the least we could do for them is take one day and one minute of silence just to think about how lucky we are. In our generation I definitely think that this is still relevant and there is no part of me that sais otherwise. II just think that some people just lack general respect and that gets me extremely angry. During the assembly there where ignorant people just talking and laughing during the minute of silence and the veterans speech and I think that is completely disrespectful because if you knew someone who died in the war they would think twice before you even considered talking. Overall I think that it is a shame that some people just can't even take something like this seriously but I am very thankful and I will always have respect for all of these amazing people who sacrificed for us.

  20. I find rememberance day to be a day like no other. It is so sad and makes you look back on what others had to go through to make us have all this, and I fully disrespect all those people who were laughing at the veteran when he was crying, that’s just messed up.

There was actually some controversy at my moms school where the principal wanted to switch the memorial to the tenth because she wouldn't be there on the eleventh and she really admires the day. One of the workers was nagging about how she shouldn’t put herself before remembrance day.

I find her argument was really bad because you shouldn’t only appreciate your mother on mother's day or else you have a serious problem that you should probably get checked out. And it goes the same with every other day, even remembrance day. So you shouldn’t just remember the soldiers who fought on the eleventh, you should remember it as long as you live.

    So what do you think?

  23. Remembrance is a very important day to reflect and remember those soldiers who fought for our freedom. I thought the assembly was really interesting to see a veteran from wars in the past. Why I think its important to remember the soldiers who fought for us because they did it for us, for our freedom and without them we wouldn't be here peaceful and accepting one another. Without them we would be discriminating others and fighting each other and no peace to be found.
