Today, we spoke!

As part of Bell, Let's Talk day, I devoted a 50-minute period to simply TALK!

How has communication changed since the evolution of the cell phone?

Have we lost the art of simply talking?

What do you think the will happen in the future?

Explain.

  1. Communication has changed so much since cellphones existed. Cellphones has ruined conversations and talking to one another about their day.Instead we call that "texting". We are into social media so much that we don't care of what's going on in our friends lives and how they are doing. We should have a Bell let's talk day once a week to really show people it is not all about your cellphones there are things more important than that. We have completely lost the arts of talking it is very important to talk to someone when they are in a tough situation. I once tried talking to my friend about something (NOT Sarah) and they completely shut me out because they were too busy gaining followers on Instagram. Once in a while we should put down the cellphones and open the ears. In the future we will have even higher technology and I am afraid there will be no more talking. We have to fix this problem fast so the generations that follow don't have to go what we've been through. P.S the video really spoke the truth.

    Thank you

  2. Wow Mr. Katz thanks for the free period to just talk and draw and stuff. But this was supposed to be about mental illness but it was fun to just talk. Logan, Colin and I had a funny conversation about the movie Spaceballs and how they are making a new one in 2019. No I most certainly do not think that we have lost the ability to simply communicate like normal human beings and not be in front of screens all the time. Cellphones are making people do more and more stuff online and they are pulling people in as if the people were zombies.

  3. Communication has changed a lot since ell phones. The only way to speak would be through a real conversation or paper and pen. We have lost the art of simply talking. Now, the only way to share information is either through the internet or truth or dare. In the future I think we will all become internet cyborgs whose only conversations are to our virtual reality friends. That is why we need to act now and help the children of our future.

  4. I really enjoyed simply just talking a lot of people opened up and I learned so much about others that I never knew. Communication has evolved to texting and grinding behind a screen, I guess if ur shy then it might be better but it's not the same. I think a lot o young people need to experience the difference, press the power down button and start communicating. I liked it so much better then just texting. I'm scared to see the evolution of texting oh my lord. Anyways I hope that we dedicate anoughter period to opening up and just talking, because now I see it was much better back then, then now
    Thx for reading:)

  5. Texting has slowly been taking over our lives ever since it became a thing. As humans we now simply can't seem to have a normal face to face talk without it becoming super awkward. Don't get me wrong...I think that it is a great idea but, I think most people use their privilege to no ends. If I didn't have Snapchat and text and FaceTime I wouldn't be able to communicate with people who are far away...Obviously this is different then texting someone you are literally 2 feet away from. There is so much more to communication that doesn't have to do with video chatting and texting. I am definitely guilty of texting instead of talking but, not when I'm around other people. It just seems easier a lot of the time. Just imagine...we think we have it bad now how about in 10,20,30,40+ years. Our kids are going to be completely anti social and they probably wont even be learning how to read and write anymore. For example my little cousin who I love so much is 4 and on Christmas my family came over and that morning she had got her first I pod. She was walking around with it watching videos and she even knows how to use texting and FaceTime...Another example would be going into the cafeteria and seeing everyone lined up at tables having little to no interactions and just going on their devices. Honestly I am pretty scared for the next generations because at this point...I don't even know what to expect.

    3. Great blog! So nicely written, I think it's so bad that people who are right next to each other pull out their phones and text instead of just having a conversation.

    4. Great blog! Same, I think that it's absolutely unexceptable when people who are right next to each other text instead of actually taking. (AKA Jr lunch)

  6. Communication has changed more than I would say anything see in the world. Just a hundred years ago, the world was about 80% talking, 20% mail. 50 years later it was 70% talking, 20% mail, 10% phone, 30 years later it was 60% talking, 30% phone, 10% mail, and now it's like 50% talking, 49% phone/text/skype/whatever, 1% mail. what has happened? These charts are not at all accurate but in my own opinion, that rise of use of electronic communication has rises. And it's good in some ways. we can talk to our friends and family from across the world, but the bad thing is we lose the art of real conversations. you can't express real emotions through text! Emojies are covering your real emotions! by 2050, it could be 30% talking, 60% electronics and 0% mail. Who knows, maybe by 5000 it could be 0% talking and everyone would have a virtual-reality-hologram-texting-Skype-mail-almost-IRL-communication-matron. but hey, it's the future. we might be all extinct by then.

    1. Yes, will might be all extinct be then! Well written and funny. (as a side note, you said "60% electronics and 30% talking with equals to 90%) Just saying not to be picky

  7. I definitely think that communication has gone very low since the evolution of the cell phone. Every where I go, I see people on there phones. I get out of class, and I see at least 20 people on there phones. I do not think that we have lost the art of talking. It's just that people don't talk and use text. I think that that in the future everyone will have a phone. A person like me with no phone, I get disturbed when I am at a party or dinner.

  8. Slowly but surely, electronics are taking over our lives. We may not realise now, but soon we wont ever be leaving our houses, or even communicating with family without using a phone. Communication has changed so much. A couple years ago, people would actually sit down and just have a conversation, or meet at the park to hang out. Now instead of that, we text, or video chat. Soon we will actually be having conversations with our phones (I guess we kinda already are because of Siri). We have totally lost the art of simply talking.  I think Bell Let’s Talk day was extremely important. It was so nice to see people playing games and having long conversations like we should be doing everyday.

  9. I definitely think that the art of talking today has change for kids teenagers and adults. The creation of texting has made it much easier just to text someone a question instead of calling them or going to there house. you see a lot more people using their phones on the bus or train for example. You could be talking and be making good conversation and even forming new friendships, sadly people are locked to their phones. I do think that we have lost the art of talking somewhat. If you are alone in a room or waiting for something, there is an extremely high chance that most people will just get on their devices instead of simply talking. I really do hope that people will start making more conversation. But sadly I do not think it will. If anything it will get worse.

  10. I think we still can just talk to each other and just have a civil talk but we choose not to. We choose just to text on our phones even if were 5 feet away from each other. I see people walking across a street while texting which leads to accidents. I watched a video of a girl texting while walk through traffic and she wasn't aloud walking and you guessed it she walked right into a car. But here's the twist, she kept on texting! What has humanity turned into?

  11. We have changed a lot everywhere we go we can see people with there heads in a phone. The may cause a big problem like accidents, crashes in cars and etc... We have not lost the art of talking but slowly and slowly we will. In the future i think that kids will start getting phones in kinder-garden like seriously kids will learn how to use a phone earlier then learning how to walk, speak and etc... If it continues to do this we might as well just give up in the future generations.

  12. I think that the video is correct that you can't earn World's Greatest Dad Award by letting your young children play on electronics all day. We don't communicate enough. Since the cell phone came out, our lives have never been the same. We have 500 friends, but we are still lonely. No one just talks anymore. We act like robots. What I think will happen in the future is we will all forget how to talk and our kids will never get to experience the world as we did before. It will never be the same. Maybe I'm over exaggerating for the we will forget how to talk part, but you get the point.

  13. The first cell phone ever released was called a “Motorola”, and that was when it all began. If you had this phone, you were the “cool cat” on the street, but phone’s weren’t exactly something everyone wanted in the 1980’s, it was mostly an accessory, unless you worked in a “high tech” office. From that point on, people started talking less and less, face to face, and by 2005, almost everyone had a cell phone whether you wanted one or not. Today, more and more people are starting to realise that they have no friends and are antisocial because of social media and cell phones. I mean, I know some people who think they have tons of friends all over the world, when really it’s just a bunch of other people who are just as antisocial as you! People these days have definitely lost the art of talking, and it’s just sad! I have hope that in the future, things will get better, and luckily most people are realizing that our addiction to phones and social media platforms are getting to be a little TOO much. In the future, I believe people will use electronics to a certain extent and will hopefully, reduce their time on the internet, and start talking face to face.

  14. Cellphones have changed the way modern society functions in great ways. We can now text, video-chat (facetime) and speak to other people, even across seas. For FaceTime and calls, it is almost like you hear a virtual voice and see a recreated image. This can even be changed. We are in the range of losing the art of talking especially since cell phones have introduced the "texting" and "email" functions. I am not aware of what will happen in the future, especially with the evolution of technology happening so quickly, you can barely keep an iPhone 6 for a year. The future brings new things and maybe even micro chips, possibly enabling us to have cellphones, tracking devices, personal info and maybe even digital money in our bodies. The future will bring a new era and all the technology it comes with.

  15. I had a lot of fun the 25 I actually lobed talking to my classmates and loosening up a little seeing baker smell my shoe Michaela shaking Davreys leg and how creative my friends are when it comes to dares. We all have define try lost the art of talking people only care about electronic devices. I actually brole my phone and I am going insane without it I do care about it more than I thought I do but we should just talk to our neighbors or our friends without our phones because storit's are so much more interesting when you actually listen to them. I hope in the future I will talk and intract more with people insted of using social media of course I doubt it will happen because it's become such an important part of my life but there are other things to life than Shayne Dawson or Dan and Phil or music or Instagram or Snapchat.

  16. Communication has definitely changed since the cell phone was invented. Remember the times when you could not simply call someone and say hello, you would have to actually meet them? Well now with a press of a button you can be talking to anyone across the world. I can't imagine what I would do without online communication, well actually i tried for an hour. It was pretty fun, I actually spent time talking with people rater than moving my fingers across a screen. I hope maybe sometime we could do another lets talk day again.

  17. I definitely think that "social" media is stopping us from talking. We miss opportunities of actually expressing ourselves. have you ever heard lol or lmao . all it says is that your laughing(which you probably aren't that much anyways) and it takes out the actual human sense. When you talk to someone you never have a set of emotions to choose from, you just talk. It would be weird if you just cried whenever you laughed. you should really check an eye doctor for that if you do. or a psychologist.

Get off your phone's everybody. just have an actual conversation. "social" media is almost training you to not know how to react in real life conversations. So prove it wrong.

  18. I sorry I did this late, but here it goes. Cell phones. They have changed peoples lives. Everybody is expressing themselves by hiding a screen and no proper face to face. I don't think we have lost the art of talking, but we are on the verge of losing it. Nobody is looking up from their screens and expressing themselves. No, some people are too lazy to speak, so they take out their phones and text even if the person is right next to them. Now I'm worried about the future. I bet there will be phones that will read your mind instead of you typing.

  19. I think that the evolution of cellphones has changed the world to what it is now. Personally I would int say that cell phones have a bad impact on the world for those who use theirs responsibly. The evolution of the cell phone has made it immensely easy to communicate with others. I use my phone all the time to call people, use social media, and play games. In the future I think that someone will invent a device that can do more that a cell phone like, start your car,

  20. Communication has really really vhanged in the last 100 years people can now be unidentified if they say hate or say nice things honestly people should be very careful on what they say they don't know anything about what the person they are texting is going through but they just go right along and say whatever they want without thinking on what they are saying to the person, How would you feel if someone bullied u or called u mentally insane.... but what if you were insane? How would u feel if someone made you aware of your surroundings and making you see you r not good enough even if you are, they are putting you down
    Dont listen to those haters

  21. Our technology has really evolved over the years. We no longer meet up at the park we now face time and isolate ourselves out of the real world. Its important to talk without the use of technology. Its sad how our generation is busy on a screen rather then going out in public and hanging out with friends. The video was truly an eye opener. I will try and cut down my screen time.
