  1. I loved it because we really used our minds for this and even though my team was freaking out because ours wasn't opening, everybody was freaking out and the good thing is that we knew what the answer was and we understood the book. We were technically able to open the book and it was a fun learning experience.

    1. Good blog, it was very unfortunate that your teams lock was not opening properly!

    2. It was also u fortunate that your lock couldn't open but I think it was because ya'll were fidgeting around with it. Great blog!

  2. In general this was a pretty fun activity and I thought it was much better than the Ulysses one. The most part went really well, all the first locks went by really fast and we did not get stuck on anything until the last lock. The last puzzle was good, but we were a bit confused by the whole "Black light" on "white paper" scenario. And mr Katz yelling "ONE THE OTHER SIDE| OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS" was kind of annoying. I contributed in finding the objects at the beginning and trying to figure out the Pig Pen puzzle not knowing there was another paper. i would say that Breakout could be a fun classroom activity if done well.

    2. I know how you felt when Mr. Katz was screaming the same thing over and over again. Great blog!

    3. The exact same thing happened to us... We had the most trouble with the last lock. I agree, this test was better than the Ulysses one.

  3. I really liked this breakout session! It was way better than the ulysses one. We all worked together and had fun solving the session. The good parts were we worked together very well and we spaced out our work evenly. The bad part is that we couldn't find the final clue for the direction code because we didn't get the other side clue and we though the black light could nly see on black things. The things i did was I found the book on the magazine shelf, I suggested we should put the quotes i timeline order (because they were doing it in the wrong order) and i just kinda went around helping with minor things.

  4. Yay!!! No school on Friday!!! WOOT WOOT!!! Alright I'll get serious now. I really enjoyed this test, especially when the locks had all those references like DALLY and 1967. The Outsiders is FIFTY years old. FIFTY!!! It was a whole lot more fun than the Ulysses breakout test because it was boys versus girls + Peter (for some odd reason). We were all forced to use our brains and memory (as demonstrated by Jason when he memorized the poem "Nothing gold can stay"). It all went well except for mr. Katz singing a bad song about the opposite side of the tracks or the wrong side of the tracks. I found the book "Rumble Fish". I also helped Jason memorize the poem nothing gold can stay. I also figured out to flip the papers to get the direction lock off. I think there most certainly is place for Breakout activities in education because it helps students use their brains and memory.

  5. Since I wasn't there for the Ulysses breakout test I was one of the people who was clueless at the beginning. Since there wasn't a lot of instructions given, I did not know what to do other than listen to my teammates. After a bit, I became more independent and I was figuring out clues and locks. I did think it went well because in the end we finished first by a lot. The part that did not go well was at the end because (cough cough Mr. Katz) was keep on repeating something over and over which got me and my teammates annoyed. It was my first breakout session so I thought I did fairly well and helped out. I helped out by communicating well and never stop focusing. I do think that every teacher should use breakout activities for each test because it is not only fun, but you learn also. I think that it helps a lot in with the ATL skills collaboration and social. BREAKOUT TESTS ARE AWESOME!

  6. The test was awesome but I don't believe the boys or we should have won. The girls including peter lost because of there lock. while the some boys were ranting. But I think that I should not have gone back for the key I should have made Jordan's team suffer and be confused by why they did not make the lock open. But overall the test was easy and the memory part was easy to I just got really stressed so I kept on forgetting but I manage to still beat the girls. That was fun we should do it again.

#MR.KATZ LET'S DO IT AGAIN FOR ALICE IN THE WONDERLAND TO SEE IF THEY ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!

P.S READ MY BLOG OK AND FUNNY BLOG PLEASE!!!

  7. I really liked the breakout test this time. There was stuff that i did like and stuff that i didn't. I didn't like was that our lock was broken obviously so we couldn't get the fun feeling of opening the box on our own. I also did not like it because our team was too big so it was hard to communicate. Also it was really annoying how the guys where bragging when they finished before us (even though we where technically done) I think that my team did a good job by doing our best to communicate and everyone used their strengths to help the team. I think breakout activities are good because it teaches you to work with your teammates and value everyone's opinion and try to problem solve.

    2. Even if your lock was broken, Mr. Katz got it open anyway.

    3. chelsea not all of were bragging mostly only Davies was. Any way like collin said if the lock was really broken then how did he open it. That proves it wasn't broken it was only jammed some how.

    4. Great blog Chelsea, I agree it sucked that our lock was broken.

  8. I really had fun doing this breakout test and it was WAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the Ulysses one. I did something like this before at a birthday party, and I really enjoyed it. This test helped us to really use our minds and to communicate with our team. Everything went pretty well just that sometimes people were freaking out and we needed to calm down, but thanks to Jordan she helped calm us down. I helped out with a clue about how Johnny wanted to take a bath in the book, and I also sort of helped people to calm down and to not be to mean to the boys, but the boys were sort of being mean to us. Next time you do something like this Mr. Katz I suggest the Boys go in another room than the girls. This can help in education because of communication with each other and problem solving.
Thank you for reading comment down below.😁

    2. Thanks Celena! I appreciate that comment. However, I think that it was you guys who were handling it better! I was off trying to get the key while you guys completed most of it. Great blog!

  10. This test was better than the Ulysses test. I think the thing that went well was our ability to work together. What didn't go well? Obviously the lock not opening after having the right combination! I helped my team by getting the office key after having to recite the poem. It is still in my head now! There could be a spot for this in education. However, it NEEDS to be revised first by one student who may not be taking the test. All in all I thought it was great.

  11. I thought that it made more sense then the Ulysses one and that it was way less stressful and all around better. What I really like about these breakouts is that we have to work as a team and that we all have to be on the same page for things to work. I hope that we continue to do tests like these because there so different then a usual test and a lot of teachers are paper pushers they want everything in document form which is ok but it's way more interesting like this. The way I helped my team was just giving my opinion and what I thought we should do when needed. I think that everyone in my group did a great job and I am very proud of what I accomplished and what we accomplished as a team! Great job laddies!

  12. The Outsiders breakout test was definitely...something. For starters, on the girls team, one of the locks wasn’t opening, even though we had been putting in the right combination. So, technically, the girls had won because we had known the combination to the lock long before the boys did. Though what did go well were the smaller things. Like, finding the items or trying to figure out the other combinations to the locks. We got the first lock by just guessing, and the second lock was pretty easy, too. One way that I helped my team, was figuring out the secret code with Sarah, Farrah. I do think that there is a place for education in breakout test. For example, in a breakout test it’s a good way to work on your collaboration skills with a team and other people. Even though the boys ended up "winning"(girls actually won...go girls go!!!), I'm still happy for what I accomplished with my team and I think we did a great job!

  13. I found the test really fun. I liked the fact we had to look for clues and decode messages. I really like the way Mr. Katz makes tests, he makes learning fun. It was wasn’t so hard if you think about it. All you need to do is recite a poem, decode a message, use a blacklight on pieces of paper and find out what year the novel was made. No biggie. Well it took us a long time to figure out what Mr. Katz meant by the other side, but we managed to succeed anyway. I bet the poem was hard too. I wasn’t there to see it but it must have been hard to get the poem right, especially if we had to memorize it. We did so well... I was amazed that we finished in record time. Even if I wasn’t there to recite the poem because I suck at memorizing poems in a short amount of time, I figured out we needed to memorize the poem and turned the lock to “Darry” and everybody else figured out it was “Dally”. I pretty much gave that hint. I was proud of myself.

  14. I had tons of fun doing this breakout edu test thingy. The one thing that did not go well was our lock that didn't open for like 2048 minutes! I helped my team by finding an S.E. Hinton book and recommending a code to a lock. I think that they are a lot of fun to do and I would definitely do it again. I preferred this one over the ulysses one because it was more collaborative and fun and not online. I think that defiantly has a place for education in the future. The outsiders is also tied as my favourite book with Harry Potter and Jurassic Park. It was an amazing book to read and I really learned a lot and connected to some of the situations while reading this book. I think that that definitely impacted the breakout edu test we did in a positive manner.

  15. I loved the Outsiders breakout test!! It was so much fun, and I actually enjoyed doing girls against guys. This test was way better than the Ulysses one for sure, I think everyone agrees on that. My favourite part was finding clues around the library. My least favourite part, or what didn’t go so well was our lock getting jammed. We were kind of upset about that because we totally would have won if it wasn’t for that stupid lock. Anyway, we had fun. I think I helped my team by finding clues around the library, and giving ideas of what to put into the lock. There is definitely a place for breakout in education. It makes learning so much more fun, and we look forward to breakout tests. Definitely beats essays.

  16. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the breakout test due to being SICKKKK!! Uggggggggg its too bad. I really wanted to come to see the guys faces when we beat them. Instead of taking an important test worth meany marks I decided to stay home and watch netflix. Specifically Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why, Brooklyn nine-nine and Community. I'm sorry i was gone i reall wanted to be there uggggggggggggggggg.

  17. I thought it went very well especially Jordyn and I being so lucky at the office when Mrs.Glenn gave Jason and Davies the wrong key. There was only one thing in my mind that did not go well. Was that no matter what I tried putting into lock because I was the one on lock opening duty. It would never work and I know for a fact whichever one of the girls found the right code because we tried everything else and you een told us it was right. I helped my team by finding the sheets for the office in the black box and fiddling how to open it ohhhhhh and I also helped getting the code for the last lock. I totally think breakout test would become great and big in the future just make sure there perfect before making people do it as a test.

  18. The outsiders breakout test was so fun. I really liked it because it was much more interactive than the Ulysses test. what went well was that we all communicated well and there were never any major arguments on what we should focus on. the only thing that bothered me was the last lock on our breakout test and I didn't like how the boys team were bragging in our faces even though it turned out our lock was jammed.I also really think that the tests are a great way to learn how to work with partners.

  19. I in my opinion despised this experience it was so stressing and no one would listen to eachother and start yelling also the boys boasted in our faces even tho we won fair and square because there was a small malfunction with our lock... But honestly breakouts are fun but our class is just way too insane and immature to do them because everyone just doesn't listen and it really really bothers me because I sit there and watch them get mad at each other because someone did something or said something to someone else and it's completely ridiculous in that matter because we are 12 and 13 year olds we should know better than to be this obnoxious

  20. I thought that the breakout test was really fun! It went really well even though we finished last. The thing that I thought that didn't go so well is that we were down to the last lock and we had the right combination and we kept on trying but it wouldn't open! Then we found out that the lock was broken and it wouldn't work. But other than that I really liked it. I am also really proud of everyone because we were all communicating and there was no arguing . I found we all worked well together.
