Things you want future teachers to know.
How have past teachers made school more enjoyable for you? Was there a project you really liked? Something they did in the classroom that you enjoyed? If not something you liked, what is something that all teachers should avoid doing?
Explain.
First I have a question. Why is this blog not about the floods and schools being closed. Teachers have made school more enjoyable by doing things the kids ways or at least trying to understand the kids. Teachers should definitely avoid bullying children like some of my past teachers did like strangling my friend or trying to break my wrists. I really like the projects Mr. Katz gives. Of my past projects I loved the hotel project that I did in grade 4. I enjoyed the teachers when they aren't bullies.
ReplyDeleteThe floods are a important thing also. Great blog!
DeleteI think we should write more about the floods too. Good blog.
DeleteThere has been some teachers that I had who used methods that were interesting to the children and also helped the class. Things that I liked that teachers did in class was they tried different methods and after they asked the class if they liked it. I like when teachers have the children's opinions to make it more fair for us. The projects that ai like are fun projects like projects that involve food or group project that are online. A thing that I suggest each teacher should do all the way until the earth ends is breakout tests. They are fun and get everyone involved.
ReplyDeleteGood blog! I think that it's cool the teachers were interactive with the students!
DeleteGreat blog, I agree interactive teachers are the best! And any project that involves food is in my top 10.
DeleteI would say that some past teachers of mine have made school in general more enjoyable. These include, but are not limited to: Mrs Brock, my elementary school music teacher and Mr. Dubois, High school science teacher. These are just nice and understanding teachers that made school more fun. One fun project was the bridge project with Mr. Dubois. I think it was an interesting and fun way to learn about this subject. One thing I think most teachers should avoid doing is putting students with students you know they clearly do not like. I know in some cases this is hard to do, but just as a general rule.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree I honestly hate when I get paired up with someone that I don't like. (No offense to anyone)
DeleteSchool is pretty enjoyable mostly because of the projects at the end of the year. Like the history one where you had to build an empire, the cooking one in ethics (The best out of all of them), the cake project and the catapult in science. Some teachers are really boring and some are really awesome. Some like Mr. Katz and Dubois and etc... and others like Fafoutis she is not a bad teacher but she is pretty boring. Another teacher is Madame Jaiyi she is nice and all but she is boring also whenever she picks on people it's always me me me and me and her excuse is because I am the closest to her (not true) but also because I AM CHINESE (That even worst than what Mr. Katz said)
ReplyDeleteI also liked the empire project! Good blog!
DeleteI also loved all of those projects, except the catapult one. I haven't heard about that one before.
DeleteThere were a few teachers that tried a different teaching style when I was in elementary school. They would have a system where if you got some really hard question right, you would get a point, and once you got five points, you got a candy. That was in grade four. In grade six, my teacher grouped the desks together by six and the group of kids with the best manners would get a candy at the end of the day. Unfortunately for me, I sat down at the wrong desk during the first few months. I was so glad when I got to move seats. That meant I got more candy than I originally did (which was a lot more). I thought these were really effective methods at least for me because it motivated me to behave and work harder.
ReplyDeleteI have a big history of my teachers doing fun stuff. I remember ding cool science projects in elementary school involving baking blue sunflower biscuits and growing two flowers in a closet. I remember having fun days in gym where we could mess with anything we wanted to in the gym, including scooter-cars, hula hoops, treadmills, all sorts of sport balls, and more. We would have 15 minutes of reading time before english class and a creative writing book where we would write stories (I was voted Best Storywriter in the yearbook. I made two series named
ReplyDelete"The Epic Saga Of Grimm" and "Skytale"). Teachers shouldn't just stick to work. They should change it up a bit. They should add fun stuff and in English class we should have a creative writing book so I can finally finish volume 3 of The Epic Saga Of Grimm.
I've had a great history of teachers making my years in school so much better my old teachers in elementry were so nice to me and were loads of fun and did so many amazing projects with me such as baking and cooking and doing research on whatever you wanted it was the best thing ever. Honestly it's fun doing projects with your frineds or without anyone at all because you learn so much from your research
ReplyDeletegreat blog, I agree projects are better with friends
DeleteGreat blog Erin! I do think that it's important that we can research and learn what we want. (Other than the basics)
DeleteSome teachers NOT all of them make the classroom fun because they do amazing projects like THE CAKE PROJECT!! (Mr. Katz) and other interesting ones. So the future teachers are doing well so far. My past teachers made the classroom fun by doing learning games instead of writing or listening or even doing tests!! They make games to #1 help us to understand better and #2 to make us have fun in doing it and to not get bored! We didn't do a lot of projects maybe we did but I don't remember them because they were probably boring. I think some teachers should avoid giving too much projects because we already have so many things on our plate already and also to avoid giving so much tests!! Every week I get one, but English isn't so bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading,comment down below.
I have already said this wonderful and very extraordinary, I hope you guys noticed that 1) these are called adjectives and 2) I am trying to add as many wonderful, cool, awesome, amazing and weird words as possible because I really like writing random words. For example cats, dogs, turtles, lollipops and kangaroos. I just don't want to rewrite the whole story because hopefully someone has read it and it would be kind of boring if you had to read it all over again. That's why I just wasted my whole story with these really cool and very extraordinary, fantastic and awesome 104 words.
ReplyDeleteAll teachers should avoid being paper pushers, meaning that shouldn't just give you a huge package of handouts or a huge chunk of work from your workbook and just give it to you for the whole period and not explain anything or allow any talking. The reasons why this is not a good idea is because students might not understand. Also they will get bored easily and won't really find the motivation to finish. So all in all nobody is learning anything and nobody is socializing and communicating with one another. A good example of a teacher who gives incredible projects is YOU, Mr Katz. I really enjoy your corse because you find fun ways of teaching subjects that might not be so amusing to certain students. I love a teacher that can find ways of teaching where you feel envolved and you learn things better. I find that teachers that allow talking during there coarse really helps me with my communication skills and sometimes two heads are better then one. Another teacher that envoles is students is my history teacher. Personally I find history kind of a boring subject but not the way she teaches it. In her class we do a lot of group work and fun activities. I find that the teachers that teach this way, I am actually doing much better in there class then with paper pusher teachers. What I enjoyed the most was our Ulysses project and the cake project we are doing now. In history class I enjoyed our newest project as a class on mid evil times. All in all I like a teacher that makes learning fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading
There are so many qualities someone needs to become a good teacher, whether you are teaching a school subject, a sport, or anything else. Teachers have made school more enjoyable for me by giving me fun projects to do with partners that we get to choose. How can you not enjoy doing a project with your best friend?? One of my favourite projects was one I did with Alexandra. It ended up being TERRIBLE, but it was so much fun and we got a good mark so I guess it wasn’t that bad. We did a project on the person who invented band-aids (I have no idea why). We worked so hard making a papier maché. Something all teachers should avoid doing is choosing groups for a project and making good kids work with bad kids. IT SUCKS.
ReplyDeleteOh my God!!! I remember that!! We put so much effort into it, ended up with a good mark, but it was by far the funniest and stupidest project we`ve ever done.
DeleteGreat blog! Did you really have to do a project abt the guy who invented Band-Aids?
DeleteI’ve had a few very good teachers, for example, last year I had a very good english teacher, named Mrs.D and she is definitely my second favourite teacher. Mrs.D is my second favourite teacher because my music teacher Mrs.Keiser, has been my all-time favourite teacher and that will never change. Ms.D made my days either better or worse, but most of the time it was better, and Mrs.Keiser would always make me smile, no matter what. Mrs.Keiser didn’t give us any projects because she was a music teacher, but Mrs.D, on the other hand, gave us a year long project last year that I really enjoyed. Of course it was a little annoying, and obviously I did practically the entire thing last minute, but it was a very fun and different project. This project was a project where we had to pretty much make our own company with a product, and you had to explain a bunch of differnt things. As for Mrs.Keiser, she did many things in and outside of the classroom that I really enjoyed. She would help many people with different situations and she was very patient. Something that I feel all teachers should know, is that not all students are the same, and that we all view things differently. What I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t expect students to all learn something the same. For example, there is a tree and you want everyone to get to the top, but you can’t expect a fish and a monkey to get up the same way. The fish can get up somehow, it’ll just be a little harder.
ReplyDeleteI also really loved mrs keister. She was the best!!
DeleteYes I remember ms d she was one of my favorites.
DeleteI have mixed feelings about teachers. Sometimes you literally want to kill them because of homework or if they do something that u hate, but they can also be fun if they understand kids and have a good time with us. My favourite project this year was the cake one because i looooooove cake. Another one that i really liked was when me and my best friend samantha did a project in grade six and had a lot of fun decorating it with like 17 pounds of silver sparkles. I also always loved show and tell where you got to show off a talent or an object. I like using technology in english class and i liked (in elementary) having white boards. I think all teachers should avoid giving kids pop quizzes, like the one i had today (thanks mme coutu) and also choosing groups for the students. They should also not give homework for the marc break or christmas or any holiday whatsoever. One last thing is that I think that teachers should stop making kids write about their holiday breaks, because it's really annoying and I like living and thinking about the experience instead of writing about it. oh well. HAPPY ALMOST END OF THE SCHOL YEAR!!!:))
ReplyDeleteSome of my good past teachers have made school more enjoyable by getting the students motivated and involved. I think my favourite project was when we were growing monarch butterflies and my teacher made us calculate how long it it would take to become a butterfly, and how much space we needed to build a sanctuary. I loved how my teacher was always excited so that means we got excited too. Something all teachers should avoid though is being too strict or too lenient. Find a balance for both. Avoid giving projects that may stress the kids out or may have to cost a lot of money. For example, a project where you have to go out and buy lots of material because you may not have them at home. All in all, please just help us learn in a safe environment.
ReplyDeleteAll teachers have different methods of teaching. Im used to having a strict teacher who makes sure i get thjngs done. Thats what i normally like in a teacher but some have taken me by surprise. Like for instince Mister Katz you are one of my favorite teachers bcux you give me food and youre really chill. But i also liked my old french teacher bcuz she was strict and she had the methods that im used to. I prefer the chill teachers when it come to project though bcuz they have these fun things like baking a cake and stuff like that. Thjs project is my favorite one bcuz im LOVE to bake and baking is in my blood especially when it comes to cakes
ReplyDeleteWow! Great blog Kylie... I also love mister Katz because he's chill. Haha got to love him!
DeleteIt's actually funny, because last year ikr of my favorite teachers assigned me my favorite project ever. This was a buisnes project. Of course my last name being baker I decided to do a bakery.
ReplyDeleteOne day in school we had a bake sale where I sold my cakes/ cupcakes me earned 150$. Every teacher (except my teacher who assigned the project) wanted *forced* me to donate ALL MY MONEY EARNED to the school library. My teacher fought back again the school board and everyone, and I ended up keeping everything. Definitely a project to remember forever cause I also got 98%
*last year one* not ikr
DeleteWow lucky!
DeleteFirst off, when I was in grade 5 I was in the split class between 5 and 6 and there was this project where you make your own board game and I missed it just because I was in the new 5-6 split. The only things I don't like about some teachers are that some of them get people in trouble for doing literally nothing like accidentally stepping on ants or blowing your nose too loud. The teachers that I like are the energetic ones like Mme Beloi or Mme Godbout, they make class time so fun for all of us.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy going to school! But it does make it even more enjoyable if teachers make it interesting to learn. I have met a lot of teachers in elementary that used different methods. But I never really had a favorite. I remember a lot of fun projects that I did like in grade 5 we did a project that you had to make a machine to produce something. So my team chose to make a orange juice maker. In all the project was super fun and it was enjoyable to make. Also another project/ activity I did in grade 5 was survivor. So we had teams to compete against each other in challenges. Either it was solving a soduko puzzle the fastest or to try to guess what food you were eating. In all I think I really enjoyed elementary and the projects we did. But i am even more excited for the projects that are coming in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is really important to make learning interesting. Great Blog!
DeleteI have had some pretty good teachers in the past like in grade 4, 5 and 6. I really liked them because they always kept us awake and interested. They were like Mr.Katz, they made projects fun and original. They gave us prizes for getting a question right or when we behaved well. I don't like when a teacher just tells us to read in a book or do those pages of homework
ReplyDeleteSome things that i really think make learning fun are keeping it lively. Fun projects like videos and RAP BATTLES are truly amazing and definitely help me enjoy learning. If I could give one piece of advice to my future teacher to make class fun, it would be to make sure that the students are enjoying their class. Don't stress them out with hours of homework or 38 000 lectures about how human anatomy is the key to a lizard's stomach. Keep the lessons fun, give fun project, reasonable homework and make sure your students enjoy the class.
ReplyDeleteI had a few teachers that were really good over the past few years. One of my favourite teachers was my history teacher last year. She made the class into what we were learning by acting it out. She was also very funny. I think that every teacher should have a sense of humour because if they didn't everyone would be bored. My favourite project would probably be the cake project even though mine turned out looking terrible (and all the other drama)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nice blog. I love visiting in this blog.
