Blog 37 - Monday, February 27, 2017

In case you have not noticed, Ms. Valois, the vice-principal, has had a companion with her this year.
That companion is Cricket.

How has having a pet therapy dog affected your school experience?

Based on your observations, has this been a positive or negative experience?

Explain.

  3. I have two dogs, but not even close to being a therapy one. Cricket brings joy and happiness into this school. People who don`t have dogs, can feel that they have a dog at school. Cricket brings a positive vibe into this school. She is so sweet and reminds me of my dogs at home. She will help a lot of people who has difficulties or are death, blind e.t.c. I love cricket sooooo much and I think other people should to.

  4. This was definitely been a good thing because lots of people are going over to pet the dog and they are happier during classes. It has helped lots of people including me. Mme. Valois looks like she is happy to have Cricket with us or her and Cricket seems to like the school and students at St-Thomas. I am relaxed after petting Cricket.

  5. Honestly I have never really gone to pet Cricket but it makes sense how it would help people be more relaxed and stress free because honestly everyone loves animals and find them really cute so when they go to pet them they focus more on how cute they are instead of all the stressful things that are happening in their lives. Sometimes at home when I'm really stressed I look up cat videos because the cats are really cute and it's funny to see them fall and it just relieves a lot of stress.

  6. Well, I haven't really seen Cricket so much during my school year. When I do see it I say hi to Mme. Valois and go up to Cricket. Like I said earlier, I can't say too much about Cricket because I didn't see Cricket so much. Anyhow, I do think Cricket is interesting and a nice aspect to St. Thomas. When I first arrived at St. Thomas, I thought Cricket was here multiple years before I was so I didn't think Cricket was such a big thing to everyone. I do think this has been a positive aspect to not only myself, but everyone. I'm not the only one who is smiling when I see Cricket.

  8. I think that having Cricket in the school has definitely brightened up my days and i is an extremely positive experience. I love animals and I have a dog at home so, it is very comforting to see cricket and have her be so friendly and patient with all of the students. If I am nervous about a test for example, I will go and pet cricket to relax. I think that she helps students in our school with stress and difficulty because dogs are a mans best friend. Whenever I see cricket inside Mme Valois' office I smile and say hi to her as if she's a person and I wish she could follow me to all my classes and just sit beside me. I think that not only have we learnt something from this experience, but there could be a deeper meaning too. I think that cricket is kind of a representation of sec ones at St thomas. When it was her first day she was probably nervous and very overwhelmed by how many people where there to see her and be around her kind of like us on our first day. Both cricket and us have something in common and we've learned to adapt to new situations.

  9. I think that cricket has a very positive impact on the students at Saint Thomas unless you're allergic of course. Strangely it kind of makes me feel more relaxed knowing that there's a dog in the building. It creates a positive energy on the school and the students. For example when I'm stressed or late for class and then I see cricket it makes me feel more relaxed and stress free. I can understand for students who have very high stress levels or very high anxiety that petting a dog or just talking to the dog even though it won't say anything to you can make you feel better. When I see cricket I just have to smile because he is so cute and he makes everyone feel happy. This has affected my school experience in a way where it just makes me feel calmer. I hope other schools will be bringing in a therapy pet in their school because it really creates a big impact and it will be much apreciated from the students. Thx for reading

  10. I don't actually have a dog, I only have 2 fish. But I like dogs because they are pretty cute. I like Cricket because he/she (i don't even know) Is very fun to pet. When I was sick on monday and i had to have an early dismissal, Cricket made me feel a little better. I like how St.Thomas has a therapy dog because it makes our school a little unique in a way. Honestly, I don't think dog therapy is the best kind of therapy, because there are people who are either allergic or just don't like them. But personally, i like dog therapy.

  11. Having Cricket at school has a very positive impact on not only kids but maybe the teachers as well. As I walk by Cricket, I see so many smiling faces and it just makes me want to smile too. This is definitely a positive experience and I think it has a positive look on my own experience. Meaning, whenever I feel down in the dumps, all I have to do is look into Cricket's drooping brown eyes and I feel better. It reassures me that the school is a trusted environment to express myself freely and to feel comfort. This is truly a positive thing and I hope it can continue on to other schools as well.

  12. I think having Cricket in the school is a great idea because everytime I see her, I go and pet her and it makes my whole day better! I can also brag to my friends who go to John Rennie or Lindsay Place etc. I am glad she also helps other people get over things that happened to them or atleast make them feel better. 🐶 I LOVE CRICKET!!!!!!! She is sooooooo CUTE!!!!!!! 🐶

  13. I think Cricket is a great idea to bring to school! Especially when she lets Cricket out of her office, Cricket always puts a smile on everybody who passes her. cricket has effected my high school experience a lot. Usually when kids get sent to the principals office they are mad or sad, but now when kids are sent to the office they are exited to pet Cricket.

  14. For me, Cricket has definitely improved my school year. Not only because she is a dog and I mean...dogs, (do I really have to explain?), but because entering high school is stressful enough and seeing a dog in the halls has definitely calmed me down. To me, everyone seems a lot happier and calmer, especially around Cricket. People usually go up to pet Cricket and they are always very calm around her. So yah, I think that having Cricket around school has definitely been a very positive experience, for everyone. Plus she's SUUUUUUUUUPER cute, so that's another positive to add to the list!

  15. Well I haven’t really had any interactions with Cricket this year. I mean sure, she is cute but I’m not much of a person who needs animal therapy or needs someone or something to brighten up my day. Cricket is really just here to help kids with their problems and to be adorable. Basically she provides help and comfort for kids that are having a rough time at home or kids with autism. I like the fact that dogs know when someone is sad or is having a rough time and are there to give them comfort. I also think it is really neat that we have a dog at our school and not like most schools who don’t have pets.

  16. I think Cricket has helped positively affected the school year because it is stressful for the sec 1. Entering high school is a scary and stressful thing every time i see cricket i just have to pet her/him. The way that this dog positively affects the school is incredible whenever we see the dog we all have to say hi. It brightens our day because well it a dog duhhhhhh!!!!!!! It also gives us some diversity from the other schools because we have a dog walking around and they don't. Cricket is super sweet and if you haven't seen him/her yet you have to meet him/her.Crickets SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!

  17. I think Cricket has definitely made a difference in the school. I can’t read minds or anything but I can definitely tell that everyone brightens up when they see Cricket. I don’t blame them, because how could you not be happy when you see her adorable face?? I think without Cricket; my high school experience would be way different. When I’m not happy or something bad happened, Cricket makes everything better! I have a dog, and Cricket reminds me so much of her. They are both so sweet and can make anyone smile.

  18. I have never been to see cricket I just sometimes see her walking in the halls. So for me it doesn't make a difference in school for me at all. Though if I ever needed someone to talk to I would probably go see Cricket.Though if Cricket weren't there I don't think it would change me in anyway. Still Cricket is still probably the cutest dog I have ever seen.

  19. I love dogs. Like I have one at home. But to be honest I don't see how pet therapy affects my school experience. I've never needed to use Cricket as a therapy dog, but maybe it's just me and other people think it's really important having a therapy dog. Don't get me wrong I think Cricket cute and all but tbh I don't think she (or he idk) doesn't like me very much lol! When I pet her she kinda looks away. But I do think it is pretty cool having a therapy pet in your own school!

  20. To be honest I haven't seen Cricket very much around school. So I don't see that it changed anything about my school experience. But it is nice when I pet her when I finally see her. But I don't see it as a therapeutic thing I just love dogs! It definitely hasn't been a negative thing to our school. But since I don't really see her I don't really have a say on if it is a positive thing or a negative thing.

  21. I love to see cricket because I often stop bye to see her. It is always nice to see her because she is always happy and it adds some joy to my day. It is a positive thing because students may feel more joyous throughout the day and its a unique thin only to be found at our school. I love having cricket around because she is always happy to see me and vice-versa.
