I am asking for some input as to what changes should be made to the St. Thomas library.
Aside from some painting and new furniture, WHAT 21ST CENTURY additions should be made to promote: COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, CRITICAL THINKING and CREATIVITY.
Explain your thoughts!
I think that for collaboration, they should have some bigger tables for group projects, because the ones we have now fill up so quickly. For communication, there should be some sort of skyping downloaded on the computer so people can work with their absent partners. For critical thinking, there should be ipads to search things so more people can get on the computers, and for creativity there should be art tables for drawing and art projects.

DeleteYou are right to ask the students about the library being changed. Like Keva said we need bigger tables, and new furniture would be nice. We need more books that are interesting and that people will or would like. Not much you can do in a library for critical think unless you are doing work so free paper and more computers because the library fills up very fast.

ReplyDeleteMr. Katz, your meme is funny but so true for some peopl. Any how, for collaboration, I think there should be more chairs and couches. That would be very nice and comfortable. For communication, I honestly don't really care if we don't get more computers or chrome books, but if we needed some more sources of communication, a few chrome books won't be so bad. Like Keva mentioned for critical thinking, I think we should add a few iPads or some mind board games (board games are so fun). Finally, for creativity I think there should be a tiny art station.

ReplyDeleteI definitly agree with people that the tables hould be expanded since so many people are in the library. I also would like to add that having two quite rooms for projects is not enough. There needs to be a few more. These rooms also need to include a sort of white board to write down ideas. Maybe in the library, there could be posters or boards with the definition of some words, or saying. (For example: Hyperbole, personification, etc.) There could be more couches aswell. I do realize that a lot of people just sit there blabbing or are on their phones but more comfortable chairs would be a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI thinks these are all good ideas the new tables chairs, chrome books, the news computers, but best of all we need !!BEAN BAG CHAIRS!! Even more couches to replace chairs. Chairs! Chairs! Old lousy chairs hard and plain plastic chairs. Who would prefer couch the comfy and soft couches. I know this won't happen but maybe sun roofs to be Eco friendly and to conserve electricity. Maybe even hand crafted creative shelves. Sorry I speak a lot but I have so many ideas. This one is one of the ideas I wrote so far that will never probably come true and it is the have like a small but big balcony so we can sit out side. This one also might never come true and it is to allow people to go on there phones in the library because I know the rule is to play video games but that is only a rule for the computers so I don't really get it. If they do allow phones they should get a private WiFi for the library because the WiFi from the office is like one bar of WiFi in the library and anywhere else in the school. This one Will never ever come true and it has nothing to do with the library but the school I think we should stop going to Felix to use the auditorium but give ourselves an auditorium our self. DeleteAll the ideas that everyone is suggesting for the new library are brilliant, in effect I would also love in my personal view places where you are able to be comfortable and peaceful as to having comfy chairs and blankets and pillows. Also i would like there to be a place in the library that has a white board so if you are writing down ideas for a project you don't have to bring lots of papers and pencil cases etc. But in final the main necessities for this library is to make sure people are comfortable being here and being in a nice caring environnement

DeleteFor Collaboration their should be like projects for art or music for example like fun projects we should do an assignement on singers or dancers so that it will be fun. People will get to know each other better and it won't be due in a very long time so we will have time to work on it. For Communication their should be a group after school so that people who have issues or getting bullied can communicate with each other so they don't feel like it's locked up,they can express how they feel with people who have the same issues, did have the same issues or just understand people. They will meet every Wednesday after school. The reason I am going to choose Wednesday is because it is the middle day of the week so it's perfect!! For critical thinking I think that people who are really good with tenchnology can create a website that will help you think. Their will be all sort of games. Mr.Katz sort of stole my idea with the whole coating thing we did in class on Thursday. The last one is creativity I think that their should be an arts program not like the regular period one but a different one where kids can take art lessons but wait the best part of all is that it will be free!! People can do henas, art work and paint they can do anything. It will be taught by Sec.4 and 5 students who are really good in art. I hope all my ideas will come true but these are just some ideas that might get you inspired😁

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thank God that the library is getting a remodel, because honestly, it really needed. Even though the library has computers, and books, it can definitely use this remodel. For the collaboration part of the remodel, it could use bigger tables, because they get filled up pretty quickly and they could also add newer and more chairs/sofa pieces, so that the library is more of a comfortable place where you can relax. For communication, they could add some more computers, and maybe some apps that students can use if, for example, they’re doing a project and one partner isn’t there. For critical thinking, I feel like they could encourage to use the books more often, and could also enforce the “silence in the library” rule, so that it’s easier for people to concentrate. As for the creativity part, they could put new different apps on the computers that introduce people to new things that can help them with their future.

DeleteI think for our new library we should have some sort of interactive screen to find books faster. That way using the computers is strictly for school work and we could use the touchscreens to find out books. It would also be nice if there were some small tables close to the ground with beanbags. I had this a t my elementary school and I think it increased our thinking because we were comfortable. Maybe some white boards to work on a project with a group. We could share our ideas better that way. Finally, in the summer it gets really hot so please, install some cealing fans!
ReplyDeleteI think we should add some 21st-century technology but also keep it on the olden days style considering it is A library. I think that we should add a fireplace with assorted seeting around it. I think it would be nice if we could get some smaller tables with beanbags for seeting. Anouther idea I think about is making each little corner or spot in the library designed from different times or different countries. For example we could heave a corner from France with seeting for two and other decorations or you could decorate one place from the 1800s and anouther from the 1950s. Having a huge art mural with different students input and handprints could be a burst of Color to welcome you in every time. My last and final sujestion is a spectate little room filled with bean bags and little couches, I ask if we could purchase a school speaker with a school iPod, all latched down and secured, this could be a quiet room to concentrate and relax with the sound of music. DeleteI definitely think that we need to add more computers to the library. The computers get occupied so quickly and a lot of people aren’t using them for work while other people have to print things out or work on their assignments. I also think there should be a couple of Ipads or Tablets in case there are no computers left. There should be more and bigger tables at the library because you can only seat four per table and if you have a group project and you are five people, you can’t all sit together. 3D printers would be nice too. It would be cool if you would to make a cup for example and you just use the printer to create it. They should also have sketch pads for the “artists”. I also think we should have a TV and educational DVDs to help you with a subject you are having trouble with. They should also have little bluetooth things to contact your friends if they’re away or sick or if your friend is on the other side of the room and you guys are working together on a project.

Deletei am super excited to see the new library. Even though the library is fine now, it would be much better if there was more technology and upgraded furniture. I personally think that the library is too small for our school because it is always full and it's super annoying, but that's not likely to happen. I think that there should be riddles and brain teasers up in the library that get changed every once and a while to excercise your brain. It would be awesome if there was like a painting or drawing corner where you can draw with your friends and relax. i also think that there should be bean bag chairs or more sofas because they are always occupied and beanbag chairs would make the library more cozy and inviting. Another idea is that there should be a therapy dog on one half of the library so people can relax with the dog and people who are scared can go to the other side. Another thing would be more quiet rooms to practice presentations with white boards and maybe even one with a smart board. I also think that there should be more tables, some bigger and some smaller because that would help with collaboration and working with a team.

DeleteI use the library a lot, especially when I need it most like when I need to print a project or finish a homework assignment, and the worst thing that happens to me way to often is when the library is full and they won't let me in. Their are so many times where I see open spots and like 10 people leave the library but they still won't let me in. So if there's one thing I would love, it would be to increase the capacity of the library. Looking forward to the new library next year!
ReplyDeleteSome weeks, I live in the library. I think we should have a white board for collaboration and a little area origami stuff for creativity. We should also have a coarkboard with ideas on it so that we can come up with stories and Ideas. An area with a new reading zone would be pretty cool. It would be even better if we had giant beanbags to sit on! I love the library so I need to see it all nice and new. I am so excited to see it all come together!

DeleteOh my gosh, I’m actually so excited that we are getting our library redone, even though I like never go in the library. I have a couple of ideas. First, I think there should be like a seating area, with like bean bag chairs or something. Second, I think we should have ipads. I mean, come on this is 2017. Plus ipads are tiny, and it would be awesome to just pick up an Ipad and do schoolwork. Hope the new library turns out well!!

DeleteI think that there shpuld be a changement in the computers so we could have a n upgrade in technology. We could have ebooks so we can read digitally and have a wider selection for the book we can't purchase physically and just have them on the ebook. We should also upgrade the computers to chrome books they're smaller so thereal would be room for more of them. I think we should have a big wHite board for during classes when a teacher wants to use the library to read or work on a project the student can use the board to make plans and help it seem clearer to students who font understand well.

Another thing that would be cool to have is a smartboard (or a whiteboard or blackboard) in the library. If teachers want to use the library they could use the smartboard to help teach. Last but not least I think it would be really cool if we had like a phone charging station that we could use to charge our phones ( just like the one at Fairview) I feel like that would be really cool but it's not something we need to have.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that come to my mind when I think about the library is the technology. All the computers are so old they should either get new computers or change to iPads. The second thing that comes to mind is a big white board somewhere randomly in the library so if you are doing math or writing out ideas with friends. The third thing that comes to mind is the tables and chairs they should leave a few tables and chairs but make the rest bean bags with lap desks. I think this could help students be less stressed as we work and at a more comfy environment then having to be stuck at a desk again afterf just being in one in class.

Because when I'm studying I'd like to be confterbal and the blue seats are ALWAYS taken.An other idea is a place to write stuff down!! It would be helpful if there was a wall with white board stickers on it. I'm always finding myself with a paper filled with little math notes but I lose track of which equation I'm on. Also some larger tables because when I was in a study group with my friends we were not able to all fit on the table.(I was stuck being the person on they're knees always accidentally tripping people with my legs) Finnaly one last segestion I can only focus in a clean environment it would be nice to have some clear space and less crazy art everywhere it's beautiful but it distracts me. It would be nice to have plain coloured walls in green or yellow.
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy that the library is going to be renovated. What i'd like to see is maybe reading tablets and try to make the library more quiet. Reading tablets would be nice because you could get a lot of good books for pretty cheap on a reading tablet instead of buying the books individually. Also when I try to read there are a lot of distractions in the library like little noises or people talking louder than anyone else.

Also I find that there should be more tables and chairs because the library is always full! I also find that instead of all the computers taking up the space we can have portable laptops or maybe even iPads so that there is more space for people to sit and you don't have to be squished with people it will be more open.
